Nonprofit Spotlight: Madison Free Clinic & S.A.F.E.—Advancing Health and Safety for All
Madison Free Clinic: Breaking Barriers to Care
In a rural area like Madison, accessing care isn’t always easy. For many residents, particularly those in mountainous regions, transportation challenges can make it difficult to reach the clinic. Despite these barriers, the Madison Free Clinic has found innovative ways to extend its care, partnering with organizations like Piedmont Regional Dental Clinic, local pharmacists, and mental health providers to offer comprehensive support for physical, dental, and mental health needs.
During our visit, we met the clinic’s new Director, Diane Varner, whose passion and vision for the clinic’s future were inspiring. She shared plans to expand their outreach efforts, including launching parenting classes and additional programs designed to strengthen engagement with the community and reach even more residents in need. We look forward to seeing how their new initiatives unfold and how they continue to transform the health of Madison County.
Services to Abused Families (S.A.F.E.): A Vital Refuge for Survivors
NPCF staff had the privilege of visiting the two shelter homes operated by Services to Abused Families (SAFE). These homes provide a critical refuge for individuals and families escaping domestic violence, offering safety and resources to help survivors begin the process of healing. The shelters, which can accommodate an average of 12 people each, are designed to ensure privacy and security. Each home serves as a safe place for survivors to regain stability and access the resources they need. SAFE offers legal advocacy, counseling, and educational programs to guide individuals through their next steps.
During our visit, Executive Director Angela Abeijon, shared dedication of SAFE’s Board of Directors who play a vital role in ensuring the strength and sustainability of both the shelters and the organization as a whole. The Staff and Board's dedication to growth ensures that SAFE can continue to meet the needs of survivors in our community.
