Culpeper Downtown Farmers Market I'm SOW Healthy Youth Initiative/Farm Fresh Dollars + SNAP Match

In October 2022, the Culpeper Downtown Farmers Market, operated by Culpeper Renaissance, was awarded an NPCF grant through the Culpeper Foundation Fund to fund their Im SOW Healthy Youth Initiative/Farm Fresh Dollars + SNAP Match program.  The Market operates every Saturday from 7:30 until noon, May through October.

The idea for Culpeper Renaissance’s program is to encourage children to understand where food comes from, the nutritional value of fresh food, and allow children independence in purchasing food.   Children can also participate in cooking demonstrations, scavenger hunts, and are given Farm Fresh Dollars to spend on food items at the Market

With additional funding, Culpeper Renaissance staff reported an increase in youth participating in the Market programs, the children loved the experience, as well as improved engagement in the overall SNAP Matching Dollar program.  Success!

Thanks to Culpeper Renaissance for their hard work in getting additional benefits to low-income families for fresh food!
