Clifton Institute

On a recent site visit to Clifton Institute, NPCF staff and board members were treated to an invigorating visit with director, Dr. Eleanor Harris. Research-based field trips, adult education programs, young scientists research program, native grassland restoration, box turtle research, kestrel research, native seed project, habitat improvement and landowner outreach all contribute to their mission of conservation and restoring habitat, studying declining species and teaching people about the plants and animals that live in our back yards. Clifton Institute has programs for all ages and diverse subjects.  From lightning bugs to kestrels, you will learn what you didn't know and have fun learning it!

Fun fact: Mowing less frequently increases the amount of lightning bugs in your yard! We have really enjoyed this!

Bull Run Mountains Conservancy

Have you ever been curious to learn more about the local ecosystem and the importance of land conservation? As Judy Garland’s Dorothy said in "The Wizard of Oz," “There’s no place like home!” For many of us, the first steps to understanding our local ecosystem begin right in our own backyards. To foster this type of learning experience, the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy has created Town & Country Nature Walks! These one-hour walks are designed for individuals of all ages, offering an educational experience that helps participants appreciate the importance of land conservation and the biodiversity in their own backyards.On June 19th, NPCF Board Members and staff enjoyed a wonderful nature walk on a 79-acre property where the landowner partnered with the conservancy to allow these enriching nature walks.
