2022 YIP Cohort Awarded American Legion “Good Deeds Award”
On February 19th, the Remington Virginia American Legion Post 247 awarded the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation Youth In Philanthropy 2022 Cohort the "Good Deeds Recognition Award." The award was created in 2002 by the American Legion Youth National Children & Youth Committee. The award recognizes individuals under 18 who demonstrate heroism or are making a positive impact in their community. On most occasions, the award is presented to one individual. However, after reviewing the group's actions in the community, Vicki Burns, who serves as Chairwomen of the Education and Community Service Committee for Post 247, felt the entire group should be nominated.
The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation's Youth In Philanthropy Leadership Program provides hands-on experience with philanthropic giving. We believe our young people are more than capable of making informed decisions about community needs and tackling issues such as homelessness, domestic violence, mental health, and other major social concerns. YIP offers young people guidance, money, and mentorship to fund nonprofit organizations directly. Individuals selected to join our Youth In Philanthropy Leadership Program will get a unique opportunity to demonstrate leadership, solve problems, study grant proposals, manage budgets, work collaboratively, and present their views to an audience of peers and adults.
Applications for the 2023 YIP Cohort are open and can be found at NPCF.org/YIP. The 2023 YIP cohort will be limited to 20 participants.
