FOOTHILLS HOUSING, INC.

NPCF recently visited with Jackie Sill (right) Project Manager for Foothills Housing Corporation that provides safe, decent, affordable housing services. Foothills was founded in 1970 by Maximilian Tufts Sr., Roland Tapscott, and John Wayland when at the time, 1 in 5 occupied units in Fauquier County lacked indoor plumbing. Make no mistake, today Foothills is all about the people Foothills serves.  Jackie has such a comfortable rapport with their clients; she is compassionate, direct and an advocate for those in need. We learned that Foothills Housing works with several state programs and addresses weatherization, a ramp program, home repairs, indoor plumbing and rehab, as well as a 0% loan program based on their client’s ability to pay.  They currently have from 5-15 houses on their list and Jackie really works on behalf of the folks who need their help.

FAUQUIER FAMILY SHELTER

The Fauquier Family Shelter in Warrenton, Virginia provides emergency housing for up to 90 days to individuals in Fauquier County. All residents must pass a criminal background check to be eligible for a stay. Depending on availability, the shelter can accommodate families, single women, and single men. After two weeks, individuals are charged $40 per week for their stay. The shelter provides case managers who work with residents to create action plans, and also offer life skill workshops for residents.

The Fauquier Family Shelter also operates a transitional housing program located in Vint Hill, Virginia which is available to qualified individuals.
