Nonprofit Spotlight: Blue Ridge Community Food Bank

In November, Northern Piedmont Community Foundation Executive Director, Jane Bowling-Wilson, Board member, Elizabeth Blubaugh and staff members, Renard Carlos and Elizabeth Rose, visited the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank distribution center located in Winchester, Virginia. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is a food distributor that partners with local food providers in 25 counties and eight cities.

The organization established distribution centers in regional service areas to coordinate food distribution services to nonprofit food service providers. The Winchester food distribution center is comprised of 101 food partners located throughout the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren. Within this geographical location, an estimated 43,300 individuals are provided food each month. While the dominant service provided to nonprofit food partners is food distribution, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank also offers limited grant funding to food partners.
