Kortlandt Grant Supports 19 Essential Community Projects in Fauquier County

The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation (NPCF) is pleased to announce the distribution of $100,000 in grants to 19 organizations dedicated to enhancing the well-being of Fauquier County. These funds, drawn from the Patricia and Nicolaas Kortlandt Memorial Fund, are set to fuel initiatives that enrich education, bolster community services, and preserve the county's cherished resources. The Kortlandt Memorial Fund, expertly managed by NPCF, was established to honor the enduring legacy of Nicolaas A. Kortlandt and his wife Patricia. Their vision of community well-being lives on through projects that make a tangible difference in the lives of Fauquier County residents.
Among the transformative projects supported by this funding is Fauquier FISH’s innovative partnership with the 4-H Youth Livestock Program. This collaboration allows FISH to purchase locally raised meat from young farmers in the 4-H Show & Sale program, providing fresh, high-quality protein to families facing food insecurity. The program not only addresses hunger but also fosters agricultural education and financial growth for youth in the community—a win-win for all.
Another significant initiative is the Clifton Institute’s Outdoor Science Education Programs, including innovative K-12 field trips, where students participate in hands-on scientific research through five ongoing projects, contributing valuable data to local conservation efforts. Additionally, the new Lawn Lab initiative will involve Grace Miller Elementary and Liberty High School students in a long-term grassland restoration experiment, aiming to inspire a deep appreciation for nature, improve academic performance, and support environmental preservation. By immersing students in real scientific research, the Clifton Institute fosters a love for nature and equips the next generation to protect it.
