The following is a list of scholarship funds available at the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation. 

Steve Athey Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Steve Athey Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Athey Family in memory of a man who was passionate about baseball and especially about building a baseball community in Fauquier County.  He was instrumental in bringing the Fauquier Gators to the area.  To honor Mr. Athey’s dedication to baseball, two scholarships will be awarded, one each to a baseball player from Fauquier High School and Liberty High School.  Note:  Previous award recipients may re-apply for this scholarship while in college provided they continue to maintain a 3.0 GPA and participate in baseball.

Eligibility

  • An eligible student must have participated in Fauquier or Liberty High School baseball.
  • An eligible student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 GPA scale.
  • Students must submit verification of participation in baseball.
  • An eligible student must play baseball at a 4-year higher education institution.

Laura Bagshaw Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Laura Bagshaw Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by her family, friends and former classmates in memory of a young woman who demonstrated the qualities of school spirit, athleticism, community service, compassion and leadership.  The purpose of the scholarship fund is to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying graduates of Fauquier High School.  The recipient of this scholarship will be a well-rounded individual who participates fully in activities in school and his/her local community.

Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior attending Fauquier High School
  • An eligible student must demonstrate outstanding commitment to athletics, community service, leadership and school spirit.
  • An eligible student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 GPA scale.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

Celebrate Education! Ruth Lea Davies Scholarship Fund
The Celebrate Education! Ruth Lea Davies Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to outstanding Culpeper County public and private school teachers to enable them to participate  in conferences, seminars, workshops, or cultural programs to further their professional development.  Financial assistance is also available for necessary school supplies or to sponsor  a speaker to present at the teacher’s school.  This annual award is presented to a  recipient whose professional excellence demonstrates the highest teaching standards and  leadership, and was created in memory of Ruth  Lea Davies.  Click here to apply 

Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce Max Tufts Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was created in memory of Maximilian A. Tufts, Sr. who was an energetic community volunteer.  He was committed to many organizations including the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce, Highland School, Fauquier Community Action Committee, Fauquier Human Relation Committee, Warrenton Rescue Squad, the Meadows Outdoors Foundation and the Airlie Foundation.
Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior attending any Fauquier County School.
  • An eligible student must demonstrate involvement in school and community service.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

Patrick Ryan Gay Memorial JMU Scholarship Fund
Patrick Ryan Gay was a 2003 graduate of Fauquier High School and a 2007 graduate of James Madison University.  Patrick, a hard-working honor student, was an extremely kind and caring young man who cherished his many friendships.  In an effort to honor Patrick’s memory, this scholarship will be awarded to a Fauquier High School senior who will be  attending James Madison University.
Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior attending Fauquier High School.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the following academic year.

Jason C. Heim Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Jason C. Heim Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of a young man who was a 1998 graduate of Brentsville District High School and had a wonderful artistic talent.  The purpose of the scholarship fund is to support a post-secondary educational scholarship for qualifying graduates of Brentsville District High School.  The recipient of this scholarship will benefit a graduating senior who will pursue a major in Art at any higher education institution and demonstrate a financial need for the scholarship.
Eligibility

  • An eligible student must intend to pursue a major in Art at any higher education institution.
  • An eligible student must demonstrate a financial need for the scholarship.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for graduation from Brentsville District High School at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll in an institution of higher education in the continental United States the following academic year.

Debbie P. Hoysa Hokie Club Scholarship Fund
Debbie Pearson Hoysa, a Fauquier native, graduate of Fauquier High School and Virginia Tech, was often quoted as saying the best four years of her life were spent in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech.  She was a season ticket holder for VT football and looked forward to every road trip back to Blacksburg for a game.  In an effort to honor her love for Virginia Tech, a scholarship will be awarded to a varsity athlete at Fauquier High School who will attend Virginia Tech.  Qualifying applicants must show active participation in FHS athletics and be accepted to and attend Virginia Tech. 
Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior attending Fauquier High School.
  • An eligible student must submit verification of receiving a varsity letter in sports, including cheerleading, while at FHS.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and enroll at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Kathleen Hitt Mercado Memorial Scholarship
The Kathleen Hitt Mercado Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by her family in memory of a woman who taught in Fauquier County Schools for 35 years.  The purpose of this scholarship fund is to support a post-secondary educational scholarship for qualifying graduates of Fauquier High School who will pursue a Mathematics degree.
Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a resident of Fauquier County attending Fauquier High School.
  • An eligible student must demonstrate academic leadership and involvement in
    community service.
  • An eligible student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 GPA scale.
  • An eligible student must intend to pursue a Mathematics degree.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

Paul S. Trible, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund
Mr. Paul S. Trible, Sr., a Fauquier native and graduate of Virginia Tech, was a local business owner and father of four Fauquier High School graduates.  He was a devoted supporter of Fauquier High School athletic teams and sports medicine trainers. Mr. Trible loved sports, but he felt strongly that any athletic participant give as much effort to his or her schoolwork as to his or her team.  In an effort to honor his beliefs, a scholarship will be awarded to a Fauquier High School senior who is pursuing post-secondary education.  Qualifying applicants must show active participation to FHS athletic clubs and demonstrate that they spent their high school career learning as much as he or she is able from his or her classes and instructors. 
Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior attending Fauquier High School
  • An eligible student must demonstrate involvement in a community service, organization or project
  • An eligible student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 GPA scale.
  • And eligible student must be a member of a varsity athletic team or sports medicine trainee while at FHS
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.
